Yesterday it rained all day so I didn't walk but today dawned bright and sparkling and I've been for a walk: down the hill, past the shop, left at the pub and along the east side of the river. Past fields of leeks and past the veggie factory and then back.
I saw black cockatoos, a white face heron, native hens, masked lapwings, blue wrens, ravens and a fantail.
Lovely autumn willow reflections in the river, which was running quite fast after all the rain.
Hi @Sallyo your descriptions of the walks you've taken and your local scenery made such an impression on me that I had to google where you live to see some photos . How lucky you are to live in such a beautiful, unspoilt place! Please continue to describe your walks so I follow them in my imagination x[/tag][/tag]I tried one of those i-phone app pedometers but it measured too many steps. I parked the car outside the community centre and walked in - 300 steps. Come On! It might have been 20, but even that is a generous count. I can see you get what you pay for.

@Sallyo I agree with@Callyanna - reading your walks sends me into a relaxed imaginary world. I'm also learning too ... off to find out what a fantail looks like ......
Planning a walk with a friend this weekend. It's a lovely sunny morning in London.

I signed up for the 5x50 challenge for the second time. 5k for 50 days or an equivalent 30 min exercise class. I can't run every day so I have been going out for walks around the village in the evening. Some 5k some a bit more. Last night's walk was lovely 6.5k to the next village, had a good nose at some lovely houses, admired some gardens and then walked back looking at bluebells, violets, primroses and listening to birds and bees. Really enjoying the walks.
Yay yay - 18.5k steps today We were taking part in a re-enactment rehearsal, so lengthy walking in our medieval garb. Great fun, but really feeling it tonight.
Congratulations @Minumonline Well done they are serious numbers and you should sleep well tonight.
Thanks @sue.q. I'll dream of knights and war crys and valiant deeds
Yes very poetic @Sallyo - I wish I could join you on your lovely walks they always sound so enjoyable.
Yesterday I did a 30 min walk just 'pounding the pavement' - but still a walk is a walk! At least it wasn't raining and the sun was shining.
I also did 10 mins on the Wii fit in the morning.
I got a Fitbit Flex for my Birthday last week, and so far, I am enjoying it. It does keep me motivated to get out there and move the body, and then can only be a good thing.
cheers
Maggie

@minumonlinewalking in a historical re-enactment! Wow! Did you dress as a knight?
I do live in a beautiful part of the world. Recording my walks here has got me more interested in what i see around me on my walks: Stories happen to people who write them, as I used to say when I was an English teacher.
Today there is a nasty cold wind. I am wavering in my walking resolve. I will log in when and if I manage to get out there.

Just got back from a 50 minute walk. Went out for a meal last night so skipped breakfast out this morning and had a nice walk instead. Have a lovely Sunday everyone.
@Minumonline my son is a 14th century reenactor. He got into it through work experience and is now into his 3rd year.
We're part of the support for re-enactors at the Battle of Lewes 750 year anniversary - 3 weeks of events and fun!
Three days with good walking on each so far, today's currently at 4590 steps, not a lot I know but not bad for me (duff hip so some days I use a stick). We were watching steam trains and kayaking and of course tea at a garden centre :0)
Onwards and onwards.

Sounds good @Azureblue. I like the idea of the tea!
Fabulous picture @minumonline. As you know, Lewis is one of my ancestral homes so I am wondering if my ancestors were involved in that! I hope they were Goodies. It must be so much fun to get dressed up like that!
I made every excuse in the book this morning re walking, but i didn't listen to myself and got out there. I did the Forth -Ulverstone Road, the busiest road out of Forth. It's on the western side of town so you don't cross the river. You can see the river from some points.
There weren't a lot of birds: masked lapwing, little wattle birds - identified by their call rather than sight, blue wrens, sparrows, and various water birds on a big farm dam. They were probably black ducks and possibly Eurasian coots, but they were too far away for my poor old eyes - Note to self - take binoculars! I could hear other birds and see them flitting up in the trees but I couldn't identify them from their call.
Also saw a farmer spraying poisons on weeds and road works which stopped me from going the full course. Cows. Fields of leeks and brassicas of some kind - probably broccoli. I foraged 4 onions on the side of the road, fallen off a truck. Forth is the Onion Capital of the world.

Well done @sallyo for ignoring yourself and getting out there, I wish I could say the same thing, I totally listened to myself this morning and didn't go. I'll be a bit pushed for time later but will try to fit it in before dinner. We'll see. Tomorrows another day
HI Justdee, yes, the other day has arrived. Today I am going to work and it is my plan to park the car some distance from work and walk to work. I am going to collect autumn leaves. I have early childhood Japanese classes this morning and I thought we'd do the Japanese thing called 'koyo' which means looking at autumn leaves. If possible I will take the children on a little walk, (outside the school, just down the hill, is a wall of bright red virginia creeper). But if it isn't possible, I will have a supply of autumn leaves, freshly picked and they can draw them. It's good when I can incorporate a walk into daily life like this. i am trying to think of the streets in Devonport which have the most European trees. As for 'doing it later', I have found that 'later' walking becomes more and more unlikely. As you say one is pushed for time later. What I have to get into my head is that walking is a high priority activity. I hope to read about your walk 'later'.
