Hi @Skippy
Welcome to the forum and this way of eating :) Yes, Miss Marples is still here, and the tourists still queue every weekend to get in... I live just around the corner, and go by every day when I walk my dogs - well before the shops open tho. (I definitely can attest to the benefits of daily walking the dogs to help with weight loss, so hope the dog walking helps you too.) We have some other lovely cafes now - my favourite is Beaumarchais on the cnr of Woodlands Cres and the Tourist Rd - the BEST cakes, made locally. Tho usually I just have a coffee now...
I agree that Hobart is lovely. My sister lives there, tho I don't get to visit very often. I love walking along the coast from the city to Sandy Bay and beyond.
I haven't been doing much walking apart from the daily dog walk (50 mins) or the 1 hr walk I do when staying with mum in Adelaide.
Hope others are managing to do a bit more!
Cheers.

I would like to join this tent to encourage myself to keep walking. After reading some of this it makes me want dog to walk! Yesterday I walked on the treadmill off and on while letting our supper cook. I got in 3 miles that way so that is good. I guess it all counts.

Hi @Skippy welcome to the walking tent  look forward to hearing about your walks, great countryside! I regularly visit family in Lancashire, Forest of Bowland way. I'm hosting Christmas at my parents this year and definitely plan to take some time aside for walking in The Lakes. Hi @Tammae, welcome, is there a dog you can borrow? I often wish I could take Charlie Cat out for a walk! @CandiceMarie did you get any interest from your dog walking ads?
It's a beautiful sunny autumn day and while there is no serious walking planned I am clearing the garden, so plenty of exercise involved. @Sallyo we have a few more weeks and then bang the clocks change :frown:

@lizbean thank you for the welcome - such a friendly and inspiring forum. @sallyo I can't belive the rocket climbing frame is still going strong ! I was at Miandetta Primary then Reece High and Don College - all a long time ago now. Lived just near Spreyton. Don't get back so much now since my Grandma died and my parents now live in Melbourne. I would love to take my own kids sometime and show them all the places that have been special to me. @sassy1 It's amazing to hear the popularity of Miss Marples endures with what sounds like very stiff competition near by! You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place - and you do very well around all that temptation! I haven't met my walking goals this weekend as my lovely father-in-law is in hospital and the weekend has vanished between visiting and sorting things for him and other family chores. I think walking while dinner is cooking is the way to go - absolutely genius @tammae!

Hi again @Skippy, sorry to hear about your father-in-law, hope he gets better soon. I am sure you will get into the walking routine when you can. :) I am ok at resisting temptation when I have to pay for it (ie cakes) but not quite so good with what is in the cupboard!!! Any trips to Oz planned? It looks like we will be in England for a short while next year, either side of our Italian Country Roads bus tour, and we will race around to see friends and rellies (I am English by birth). Don't think we will have time to do much walking unfortunately, we have quite a bit of country to cover - London to Dorset to Yorkshire to Melton Keynes and back to London - but will see what we can fit in.
If you can fit walking into a daily routine, such as when walking dogs or cooking dinner or while watching TV (assuming you have a treadmill) then that is very convenient :) Though nothing really beats (long) walks in the countryside. :D

I am happy to report that I made a start today with restarting my walking routine. After yoga I left the car and walked to the supermarket - in Best Street, Skippy - ( May not have been there when you lived here,) and bought what I needed and then walked back to the car. It wasn't a very big walk but it was better than no walk and I have to be happy with small progress.

@Sallyo good for you, today will be a normal work day walking routine and if it's fine I'll manage a 30 minute walk at lunchtime.

Sounds like everyone is having good walks ! I went out for a walk yesterday with my parents, who really wanted to get up a big hill on the coast but thought they wouldn't be able to due to hip replacements, dodgy knees, recovery from treatment etc. We went slowly and the sun shined and the dogs ran back and forth, and we all eventually got to the top. Mum and dad were really pleased to have made it, they got such pleasure from it, it was great. The views were fab too. Then we went home and had a big roast beef dinner with Yorkshire puds with all the family. A very enjoyable Sunday. Mum spotted another hill she wants to conquer too, we'll do that another day !

Has everyone stopped walking? I really like hearing about the walks that people in different parts of the world do! I haven't walked much in the last couple of days because the weather had been bad and I have had lots to do indoors. I aim to do two or three miles a day but don't really like the wet and cold, so I'm not likely to do that over the next few months! :frown: Having lost my poor dog doesn't help either - a husband is a poor substitute as a companion on a walk! Why do we always want to walk at different speeds? :?:

Hello, I have just found this tent and I would like to join. I walk daily in my 1 hr lunch break. Unless it is chucking down, i make myself leave the desk and walk for about 50 minutes. Then I come back to the office and put my home made soup into the microwave and have lunch. My app tells me that on average I walk three miles. Sometimes i try to walk more briskly and manage a bit more.

On most Sundays i walk with a rambling group of friends (5-6 miles). Years ago i tried running. By the time I had worked myself up to running half an hour my knee started hurting and all that training was lost.
I ran usually after I came home from work which in the summer time was fine but I did not enjoy running in the dark winter's nights (even less mornings) When I run i seem to be just stoical to get this exercise out of the way. When I walk I meditate in my head or appreciate the scenery. Walking is so much easier to incorporate into our lives after all we all have to get around.

I was on a 4 day trip and the only real walking I got was at the mall. Not a good situation when I have my wallet with me.

Today I am home and back to routine. Setting up the Halloween decorations outside (I over do this for sure.) and will take a walk at the seminary. It is beautiful there and three laps is a 2 mile walk. The Missouri weather is beautiful, sunny, temps upper 70s and the trees are dropping leaves. Hope everyone has a blessed day... and get your walk in!!!!
