Parked at Lognor in Derbyshire for a circular walk, taking in Earl Sterndale, and it's funny shaped hills. we nearly had to abandon it near the start as the path went through a narrow strip field, with a bull very close to the path, looking at us far too intently. OH was all for having a go, while the words of my FARMER brother in law echoed in my head:"Never trust a bull....." However, at that moment, a large walking group of 18-20 people appeared, most carrying hiking poles..., and only this one path out of the valley.. so, we asked if we could tag along!!!! the other side of the valley, they were off in a different direction, but a very timely and happy rescue for us..

Wow, eyup, I don't blame you for being cautious! We have stock near us and there's no way I would go through their field! My new waterproof over-trousers are coming today - I'm gearing up for the coming weather, although I could have done with them this morning!
@Sallyo thanks for your sympathetic post in response to my stressful week where I lost my head and handbag (another thread). So, I'm taking matters in hand and planned a good long relaxing walk on Hampstead Heath very early tomorrow morning so I get the most out of the rest of the day.
Tis very quiet lately, come on you walkers what are you up to?.

Walked into town round the shops then OH took me for a walk round a country park we hadn't visited for ages. Little egret and heron put on a show as did the dragonflies and other usual suspects, autumn evidenced by leaves turning gold and red and all rather misty.
Weary now :0)

Hi @Azureblue yes, I noticed a few leaves on the ground first time Wednesday. 22 degrees tomorrow. Looking forward to my morning walk, being in an open space and a yummy coffee at Kenwood House. 6am start.
Hello all, I'm back. Walking all done and I will post about my adventures. Slow in getting back into the fray as the only walking I've been up to is walking smartly to the loo. Lembeh Lurghi struck and ,boy , was it bad. Gone now, still drained but Beloved has it now. How can that be , 7 days later?
Loving thinking of autumn...

Had the pleasure of OH's company this weekend just gone on the 5km 1 hour walks I do when I stay at mum's. These are just around the local neighborhood (suburbia) but one walk includes a nice park, and the other has a view over the 'burbs to the coast.
Back home today and back to the usual daily hilly walk with the dogs.
Not sure if I reported on the longish walk I did with a friend the previous weekend? Think I may have... A much more extensive hilly walk than my daily one... Had great weather too.
Happy walking everyone

Morning all. Well my dog walks are back to canal paths and fields and peace and quiet, the dog is happy chasing her own tail whilst I pick a few blackberries to keep me going
We are going to take a walking holiday during the October half term. We will be in the campervan so need to find a quiet campsite with plenty of nearby walks, suggestions welcome.

Hi all, hope you're still walking ! I walked along my favourite coast path yesterday, and it was lovely. Had DD and her friend with me as well as one of the dogs (the other one is on heat so I had to leave her at home with the family !). No wind at all, and it was warm enough to leave my jumper in the car. The swallows were gathering in their hundreds preparing to fly south for the winter, I'll miss them. Had to go round several herds of cows and many more cow pats. We went to the end of the path and then along the stony beach a while to get to the next village, where we all had a drink and a Cornish pasty while the dog hoovered up all the crumbs. Yum. The sea was very calm and the beach quite peaceful. Then we headed back, scoffing blackberries as we went. We spotted a very green and quite large frog/toad in the marshy bit, I'll have to google what it was ! Last night the dog snored all evening while the other one has now forgiven me for leaving her behind. She'll be able to go out at the end of this week. That's all for now.
While my three-year old granddaughter was in nursery this morning and her five-year old sister was in school, I took an hours walk along a hilly ridge to Sparrenberg Castle, Bielefeld, Germany. I started in cool mist and ended up in brilliant sunshine, arriving back at my daughter's home rather hot but pleased with myself! My fitbit flex is certainly encouraging me to walk more!
Nice sunny local walk this afternoon with both dogs. Autumn is well on the way; falling leaves, loads of berries and spiders' silks everywhere. Still quite a few butterflies around too. It has been a very dry summer and the little spring I regularly pass has dried up. Odd to think back 6 months to all the flooding on the Levels. The river is pretty low too. I'm sure it won't last much longer !
Bumping this up for all the newbies who may be interested in joining the walkers thread. I have been so busy with work and family that I've let my mindful walking drop over the summer. Autumn is about to arrive in the UK this week, it's been a fabulous September in London - an extension of summer, though the driest in 60 years so that is not so good. The nights are closing in and I plan to get out walking with purple wellingtons and red mackintosh.

Oh Thank you Liz for this timely reminder. It's October. Day light saving starts this morning in southern Australia. My Christmas Club goal is to walk and here I am already at the 5th and I haven't done any walking. I too have been too busy but that is a lame excuse. (Excuse the pun.) Time to get moving and no more excuses.
[I have just spotted this forum now it's been bumped and feel I must share the tent too! It's been like going back in time for me reading some of the posts on the most recent pages as whilst I know live in the North of England, I grew up in Tassie not far from @sallyo! I grew up just outside Devonport (very close to Forth) and I know places mentioned like Ulverstone and Steele Street very well! When I was little we had a Saturday routine that involved a trip to Ulverstone and a picnic and a play on the rocket climbing frame there - happy days! I moved to Melbourne in my late teens so posts from @sassy1 about the Dandenong ranges also bring back loads of memories. My folks still live in outer eastern suburbs so when I'm home it's only a short trip to the Dandenongs and a trip on Puffy Billy (ideally followed by tea at Miss Marples - if it is still there!). London is exciting and lots to do and the North of England is very pretty too (I was a mad James Herriott fan when I was back in Tassie so living here seemed unreal for a long while) but I love Tassie best of all. I think Hobart is one of the loveliest and most liveable cities in all the world. Anyway, should get back to the topic of walking!! Really need to lose weight so have just joined you all, treated myself to fitbit zip (it was on offer and I reckon I'm saving on food!) and have resoled to walk more. Have two lovely dogs who will be ecstatic if I can keep this up as the weather turns colder and greyer. Hopefully checking in here and hearing about Spring at home will put the necessary spring in my step!
Happy walking everyone!

@skippy, that' s cool! That rocket climbing frame is still there! Where did you go to school? Not Devonport Primary School? The world is a very small place. And on the subject of walking, I didn't again today.
