Re: Insomniacs' tent...

Thank you CD, I did sometime around 3am. I put salt on my lunchtime salad but, being a grandsons day, I did end up eating all sorts of junk too. Good suggestion though, will bear it in mind.
I had been taking magnesium tablets for the last three months which ran out a week ago, I was wondering if that may have added to it?

Magnesium is known to be useful for restless legs syndrome and so may well help with cramps.

Another thing that helps with sleep is getting enough vitamin D. Most people in the UK and similar latitudes are deficient or borderline deficient. It's almost impossible to get enough vitamin D from food alone. If you aren't getting 30 mins skin exposure (bare arms and face, no sunscreen) to bright sunlight (i.e., between 10 and 4 in the summertime) you probably need a supplement. Try taking at least 25micrograms in the morning. Don't take the supplement in the evening as it can cause wakefulness. Obviously you'll need more in wintertime.

Magnesium and vitamin D are closely involved with each other and with calcium absorption so it's a good idea to take vit d in the morning and magnesium at night. If you eat dairy food you probably don't need calcium supplementation as well as the vit D and magnesium together will maximize the absorption of calcium.

Thank you dear Carorees, I will get more magnesium as I am taking vit D every morning. Any particular type/brand to go for please? (Sorry, unable to tag you honey.)

@carorees thanks as always for the info x
I' m prescribed both vitD and calcium by GP but no mention that sh'dnt take vit D in the evenings! Wll bear in mind,i only have to take it once a month now after a few weeks of enormous daily dose.what wd you say was optimum time of day to take calcium..which dr prescribed after two quite poor bone scans..ive never been a big dairy eater.
I love taking magnesium, its really improving the quality of my sleep..AND havent had restless legs lately..didnt know it was the mags that was helping out there! :like:
@AzureBlue i buy my mag from Holland and B
Was on offer in the penny sale, which helped enormously with the costs
Caro said not to get mag oxide or sulphate,so i get the mag citrate and take 3 per night 2 hrs before bed
They are big tablets so you might want to cut them in two x

I think being awake at 4.15am and restless is a pain in the tush.Morning after a fast of course. I had a nap for hour and half yesterday fast day to pass the time and I was not in the mood for fasting so wanted it to zoom along, paying for it now. Got the washing on at 5.10 out of peak time and will save on power.
If I can't sleep and get on here, you the insomnia regulars will be going about their day and I will be talking to myself, no? We are opposite zones Europe, Australia. Unless we had some Aussie insomniacs.
I'm dog tired, but my mind won't let my thoughts go. I'll be zzzzzzzzing tonight way before bed time.

Anybody here....heeellloooo? Cant sleep again. Its was 2.30 last night before I got to sleep, then I was up again at 3 because hubby was snoring.......in the room up the hall!! I switched to a cheaper Lidl coffee and wondering if my 1 morning cuppa could be the cause. Usually if I'm in this tent its because I have woken up, but recently I just can't get to sleep.

@zamale, I do identify with what you said about getting on here and talking to yourself because all the Northern Hemisphere's are enjoying their days. I am an Aussie insomniac. In future I'll come on here and see if you are about! Sleeping well at the moment but it comes and goes.

Here I am, an Aussie insomniac - it's 3.30 in the morning, and the howling wind outside is keeping me awake! I am now enjoying a cup of English Breakfast tea and reading posts, the wind is also playing havoc with my nose, just had a few sneezes!

Is anybody here with me?

cheers
Maggie :sleepy: :sleepy:

I'm here @Maggiee, it's only 7:30pm here so not bed time yet. Sorry you can't sleep, I know the feeling too well. Have you tried taking magnesium citrate? it works a treat for me :)

I'm with you @Maggiee - another Aussie insomniac...now 4:30 here in very quiet Brissy, and I've been awake since about 1:30am...and it's not even a fast night! Plus it's my first night since school finished, so no planning stress. We've even been offered the lease on the house we were hoping to move to, so that stress is gone too! Silly brain!
Been re-reading Jane Austen to try and turn the brain off, but it's not playing ball.

Ah well...here's hoping we all get off for a well earned kip soon!

Just saying: I believe I need less sleep since I started this fasting caper. Does anyone else find that? I wake up earlier and i don't feel tired in the day.

Interesting thought, Sallyo. I know I'm less exhausted during the day than I used to be - I think a better diet and more exercise is definitely helping there. But I'm still often falling asleep in front of the TV before 9pm...I just can't stay awake once I let myself relax. Mornings are another thing entirely...but the I've always been an early bird since I was a kid, and never nap well during the day.

So, I'm still aiming for 7.5-8 hours a night...that seems to be the sweet spot for me. I can cope with less, and I'm finding I'm coping better when I have less than my ideal now that I'm fasting, but I still feel more "on the ball" when I've had my full compliment of sleep.
