Well done Alex!

Yes it's normal to go up in weight between fasts. That's where a tracker such as True Weight or Libra can help as they show a rolling average which is rather more reliable than the daily fluctuations caused by water retention etc.

Weight loss doing ADF doesn't seem to be any faster for most folk than 5:2 - average losses are around 1lb a week. The crucial difference is that you can get away with eating more on your feed days because your calorific deficit for the week is higher due to the number of fasts. Hope that made sense! So, for me, it works well to have 3-4 fasts a week because I can easily go over my TDEE on feed days. When I'm disciplined on feed days and especially when I'm cutting right back on bread and alcohol, I lose more, but to me it's simply not worth doing most of the time; I want to feel unrestricted between fasts. I don't consider that I pig out though...

Hello all, I'm just changing over from 5:2 to ADF. The problem with 5: 2 for me was that because I didnt have to commit to a particular day of the week, I ended up postponing them when things got stressful and over=eating in between and finding fast days quite hard. What I like about ADF is that I get used to fasting more plus I really dont think about what I eat AT ALL on alternate days, whereas I would worry on 5:2 about blowing it by eating too much. So we'll see how I get on in the longer run. Today was the first time that I didn't eat until evening. Then had a 319 cal M& S meal and not feeling too bad at all!

Back into the ADF routine. I am a definite convert to this woe. I haven't weighed myself ( I don't now it just stresses me) but looking in the mirror when I jump out of the shower and... 1) not so much wobble 2) I have a waist (oh yeah) 3) stomach getting flatter (hallelujah ) 4) butt shrinking ( but still out there :) ) . I have even convinced husband that ADF is the way forward, so he's now on board. Why didn't I start this earlier? Because it seemed a little bit too full on, well it's not, for me it's easier.... Scoff, 500 cals, scoff...simples!

Oh wow! I'm so glad that you are loving ADF @minsmum and hubby too. That must make life easier! I've bean just SO naughty whilst on holiday. In between scampi and chips and delish meals out, I've bean munching on marshmallows. In fact, it's the marshmallows that have bean my downfall. They're just like Pringles...once you pop you just can't stop :wink:

Bean :cool:

Hello, I'm back and camping in here after a slight holiday hiccup like @Nursebean after a lovely holiday. And let's face it, it wouldn't be a holiday without indulging in some of the lovely things in life. I do confess I was a lot more mindful than usual although I did capitulate in the face of food at the bear lodge we went to, the chef is fabulous, seafood paella caught right outside the floating lodge, a Brazilian dulce con leche to kill for. In fact there nearly was blood when OH ate the piece which I was saving for our post boat trip snack. I have almost forgiven, but not forgotten :wink:

So, fasted today with a slight hiccup but have recovered it slightly. Good luck everyone else.

Hi Debs. I'm ADFing! I'm not at all sure I've got it right... I had a stop start going on with visitors for 1 month but started in earnest on Thursday 12th June. I stop eating around 10pm the day before a fast then have only water and black coffee until around 10pm the next day when I have 2 bananas which helps me sleep. Then on feed days I eat what I like. However, not much weight lost. Any ideas anyone?

Alex, I can well imagine that you have slow weight loss because you are not eating enough! When I did ADF I always had 500 calories on my fast day, or slightly under. I've not heard of anyone doing ADF, restricting calories as much as you are. I'm going to tag @Carorees in for her opinion.

That said, you shouldn't expect weight loss on ADF to be significantly more than on 5:2; the gains are in the greater freedom on eating days not a greater rate of loss.

I'm currently supporting hubby in his first ever diet, and actually, he is supporting me as well. He is doing 5:2 and I'm currently only visiting this tent as I'm doing 5:2 with him, and eating windows on the other days. Seems to be working quite nicely at the moment for both of us.

@alexsid

It sounds OK what you are doing as far as I can tell - 2 bananas on fast days with normal eating on feed days? Ideally for best fat burning, I would not eat bananas as they are high in carbs (unless they are very green) and eating carbs stops fat burning in its tracks! I would go for some protein and fat (cheese is good) for a late night snack. But even with the bananas you should still be losing weight or rather fat. Unfortunately, the scales mainly measure water weight and so if you have only been following ADF properly for a week then I would not worry about how fast the weight loss is for at least another month. Take your waist measurement and use that as well as the scales to monitor progress as it is more reliable than the scales.

Please read the articles in the main site on fasting, especially those on:

Thank you Winsome and Carorees. I tried to give you both a thumbs up for your replies but I operate from a phone and things don't always work!

Great advice and thank you both. I find if hard to eat during a fast because then I don't want to stop! Also I have the bananas because I read that they help you sleep - not something that is easy for me. I didn't expect to see much weight go but nothing was happening until this morning and 2 pounds gone and 1/2 inch
off waist.

I am following the Dr Varady book as it suits to eat what I like on days off and I do find it really cleansing to fast completely for 24hts. But if you think I should try another way, I'd love to hear.

Thank you for your responses. Alex x x

p.s I didn't intentionally give a thumbs down. Its my phone I think. I have asked Moogie about posting from my phone and it seems it can be problematic!

Sorry! x x

@alexsid
When you click on the thumbs up symbol to 'like' or add thanks to a post, the thumb turns downwards (in case you want to change your mind I assume), which is very confusing but seems to be built into the forum software. If you can see a thumbs down it means you successfully liked a post.

I can see that you thanked me for my post for which I thank you! :like:

Thank you again Carorees. I also wanted to ask, what happens after wright loss to your sin. I'm a bit worried about belly fat/skin as my weight has fluctuated a lot over the years?
