I finished my dinner at 7:30pm and intend doing 36 tomorrow. I must say that I'm not quite as enthusiastic as I was last week. I think the novelty has worn off. :dazed: I'll be fine though.
Meribel I'm on your fasting schedule this week - a 500 cal fast on Tuesday and a 36er on Thursday. I no longer need to lose but still want to fast regularly.
I'm fasting tomorrow but at the moment don't know if its a 36-er or not. Since I don't eat until 7pm when I do a normal fast day, I will see how I feel as I go along I guess. I'm doing lots of sugarcraft tomorrow and I'm wondering if the smell of sugar and the airborne particles will do my resolve in
Me too, Wildmissus. I'm in for tomorrow but less gung-ho than last week! I ran 15 miles today & I feel physically tired just thinking about the next 40 hour fast but know I can do it & that once I say I'm doing it that's that. If I hadn't seen the weight loss last week or enjoyed the buzz of the water fast so much I may have dissuaded myself but you know what this bandwagon's like!!! Good luck everyone, keep the thread updated to carry us all through Monday xxx
I'm in for tomorrow also, this will be my 4th no food fast. It kinda feels normal like where I was just doing regular 5:2. Hopefully that comment won't come back to bite me in the bum .
But I think I know what to expect tomorrow and after a weekend of, not particularly excessive excess, but excess nonetheless, I feel my digestive system needs it.

See you all tomorrow and good luck everyone
I'm in Wildmissus gange for tomorrow, Monday, for a 36er. Really keen  Last ate at 8pm tonight - ready and willing - good luck everyone - seems quite a lot of us going for it again tomorrow - :clover:
I'm going to join you ladies tomorrow. I did it last week and ended up doing a much longer fast. But back to normal now and 4:3 but on 36 hour water fasting. Isn't it exciting to see what we're capable of?
OK! I did try it last Thursday and was doing well until i got home & dinner was on the table.... was not hungary but ate... i am going to try tomorrow & hot yoga in the evening. I have had a feast day today as i hade some vegetable bhajis!! Good luck to all tomorrow.
Hi wildmissus

I mentioned your thread on a food forum I'm a member of - and it received some very negative (not to say ill-informed!) reactions:

http://www.wildfood.info/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9357&p=243527&sid=6479311cba4ed2808ea472e329d6cb33#p243527

I give my response to these comments further down the page.

“I think I would be very worried about the motivation of people who get obsessive about any sort of diet. I've read that intermittent fasting isn't suitable for people who have had issues with things like anorexia or bulimia in the past (not that I'm suggesting you have) as it encourages bad eating habits, and if people are prepared to go longer and longer without food, and look on it as a source of pride, or competition, then I can see why.”

“If you do 36 hours without food it is no longer the 5:2 which is the tried, tested, & medically approved regime

It's a fad

Sorry to be so blunt but I think it is barking mad - it's not a kiddie dare "how far (or how long) can you go", it should be a sustainable and safe method of eating for life”

“I saw the thread about a 36 hour fast. It's not for me. In fact, I think the concept could do more damage to 5:2 and could lead to it being totally dismissed by the media as engendering eating 'disorders'. After all, it's still in its infancy and there are many who have already poo pooed it.”

A bit of light relief for all you 36ers as you fast tomorrow.

I'm restricted by my wife, ATM, as I said earlier, but I shall try and keep my calories down under 200 tomorrow - that in itself will be some sort of victory! :like:

But good luck and best wishes to all fasters tomorrow - I'll be with you in spirit (and watching this thread grow, no doubt about that!).

Cheers, B&W

I liked the following paragrap you wrote from the other forum:

There are other versions of IF apart from 5:2 - 4:3, 6:1 and ADF (alternate day fasting) amongst them. Fasting completely for one day - for that is all it is - only requires one to eat 500 or 600 calories less than they would otherwise do. That's all it does - it removes one quarter of one day's 'recommended' allowance. Hardly earth-shattering!

Hardly earth shattering indeed!
I find it interesting how judgemental people can be.
Well I'll be joining you all today! Just had my official weekly weigh in and I've lost 2lbs this week which is great! Was worried I may lose too much and need to revert as I'm looking for slow and steady loss as I'm worried my skin won't cope with faster weight loss! Anyway, the best side effect I've noticed from this week has been that I haven't craved sweet food or binged on biscuits! This has been a relief as I've been trying to address this for ages, certainly haven't been an angel in the food department but have been able to stop after one or two treats! That is motivation enough to join you all today!
Reading those comments from bread and wine is interesting, I also would've responded in a similar way about people not eating for such a long period before I knew and had read about 5:2. We are all programmed to associate not eating with anorexia and believe we should snack continuously throughout the day! I watched the men who made us fat in the resources section and it changed alot of my incorrect beliefs! Happy 36hr fast everyone!
I'm in with you today - I can see several upsides of this way of fasting - but most of all I want to see if I can do it.

Overdid it this weekend, and struggling to get back into my C25K training - I need to feel back in control again.

Good luck everyone.
I'm 36 hour water fasting today! I couldn't care less that some people are frowning on it. So many 'experts' and yet there's still an obesity crisis!! There's no science to prove anything conclusively on fasting yet as it has only been in the mainstream for a short time. However, the science that fewer calories = loss of body fat and my own personal experience are all I need to tell me this works for me. I'll be drinking plenty of water today and focussing on LIFE and enjoying the things that fill my day like work, reading, walking, other people and sunshine!
Im with you Redhead.

Fasting for 36 hours today, its 1830 in the evening and am 22.5 hours in. Have been hungry but not to bad. Tried to go without coffee today to avoid the milk calories, dont like it black, but had a headache by 1400 so gave in and had one, thats still 2 less coffees than I would have so getting better. Hoping to be able to manage a full water fast next week.
Having tried lots of diets over the years, including the usual well known international ones, this is the easiest, and it also makes the most sense to me. In a few years time this will be mainstrwam and we can all feel smug!!
