General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

I am going to give this ago today. I ate my evening meal at 7pm last night so I am hoping I can see it through to 7am on Tuesday.
Up to now (starting my 4th week today) I have done 500 fast which included a breakfast of 1 poached egg & some tinned tomato and the rest of my calories for my evening meals. For todays fast I had intended to try miss my breakfast and go all the way to my evening meal but after reading all the posts on here last week I decided to give 36 hours ago. I will be checking in throughout the day hopefully offering support to others and to read other 36ers coping strategies

Thanks for the post b&w - it gets me down when people are so negative about people trying to do something positive about themselves As redhead says, there's still an obesity crisis and if this works for us, well what the heck and least we're trying

Count me in for another 36er - will try and do the water only route, but may need a fix of tea at some stage! Goodluck everyone - keep posting to encourage us all to get through - I know I'll be back here early evening when I start to feel peckish :grin:

I'm in today, feel I need it after a weekend with wine and chocolate !!!
I have had a very indulgent weekend as we had visitors, so I'm in today though I'm hoping last week was a bug and not a reaction to fasting then eating, or too much caffeine on my 1st attempt at a 36 hour no food fast...

So I have decided to try a slightly different approach this time...

I ran 3.3 miles 1st thing, then had a half strength protein shake.... (c 55 cals) and some black coffee, and am now on water, and will see how that works for the rest of today - trying to avoid more than a couple of coffees or diet cokes.... will go for a walk lunch time, and may be another short run or walk this evening too....
I was all set for doing this today but I've just had a cup of tea with milk. I think I'll drink tea and coffee as normal with milk but no sugar and plenty of water but I won't have my 400 cal meal.
Just in for lunch. Butter Mint tea. I'm not on a water fast but drink herbal tea, tap water and sparkling water. As long as I don't eat then that's job done. At the moment it is only 8 degrees and blowing a gale so I need something warm.

I'm another one who can't be arsed with naysayers like that - all they're heard about is 5:2 fasting because that's the form of fasting that's been popularised in the press thanks to Dr M (and hurrah for him!) but as you point out there are as many varieties of fasting as people and several published studies on total fasting.

Sounds great and I will be following your success on that plan. My problem is I do a 24 hour fast, then eat more than 500 cal because I am so hungry and then try to fast another 12. Isn't ideal. Any suggestions?

Hello , how is everyone doing so far? Bit quite her today compared to last week. Starting to feel hungry so came here to read some posts and hopefully taking my mind off hunger.
Done OK so far. The challenge will be walking in through the door tonight and just having a drink - not the usual ritual of a carefully selected fast day meal.

But I can do it. Will do some new knitting as a distraction.
Doing OK not at all hungry, managed to cook the kids tea without nibbling, but I am feeling slightly spaced out today !!! struggling to think straight, I have to drive my son to band practice now (brass band) and I'm questioning whether I should have something to eat first ?? frustrating because as I said I'm not hungry !!
Not doing too badly, am donating my Marks and Sparks ready meal to my partner this evening and not remotely bothered! Don't think I've drunk enough again today though so going to try and up the fluids! Fed the kiddies today no problem and had my hot choc last night to signify the beginning of my fast so I don't even feel I've missed out on that! I expect the posts will pick up tonight when everyone is due their evening meals! :0)
Hi all, Hope everyone is doing ok today. To those who've had tea or coffee - don't worry about it. I actually had a coffee with milk today and I thought I'd kicked that weeks ago. It's about 20 cals so barely makes a difference anyway. Not worth worrying about, esp if it makes the fast more sustainable.

I'm finding it easy today because I feel about a stone heavier due to TOTM and terrible bloating. Don't feel like eating at all. Any advice on mild diuretics I could take tomorrow gratefully received! Lemon in water? Never noticed it so much when I was heavier!
