First time I have popped into this tent, I should come more often!
I am a three times a day dog walker and sometimes at the weekend I do hikes but I will mosey over to the Hiking tent to talk about those!

@Lizbean don't feel so bad about missing your 9 mile walk, I think the lunch and cinema sounded like it was what you needed after Friday. If it makes you feel better I skipped my 10 mile walk that day as the rain was POURING and I don't think I would have enjoyed it one bit! I did a nice 2 mile lap instead and the dog seemed content!

Today I have been out in the local woods at 7.30am with the hound, all the wild garlic is flowering and smells amazing. Wish the weather would decide what it wants to do!

hi everyone. I've been out of the loop as I was staying with my aunt in Adelaide and there wasn't any internet connection. I'm now in Melbourne at my sister's and on line at last! i haven't walked regularly while I've been away, but last night I did a good walk with my friend. There were lots of great walking tracks near where she lived - Felixtow, for anyone who knows Adelaide, along the Torrens and we walked from her place to find my ancestral home - where my great, great grandparents lived from the 1890s until the 1940s. It is a huge pile - by Australian standards. The area around,'Lochiel Park', which must have been their orange orchard, is now a new 'eco community' with community garden and lovely new sustainable apartments and so on, so that was good to see. There was a plaque out the front of the house saying about my ancestors. Jonah and Rebecca Hobbs were my grandmother's grandparents, if you see what I mean. I guess she played there when she was a little girl. There was an avenue of date palms leading up to the front porch which I have seen in photographs, which was still there.

Walking around Melbourne tomorrow - off to the tram, then the Victoria Markets, into the city, I'll be doing a good walk. As long as OH isn't with me. He has COPD so walks very slowly and can't walk very far. He always wants to catch a taxi.

The exhibition in Adelaide was really wonderful. I went to the opening on Friday night and then on Saturday I was one of the speakers at the 'floor talk'. But that's another story.

Great to hear what everyone's been up to. I have bought myself a pedometer and the readings are interesting (well, to me anyway). According to the pedometer on Saturday I took over 18,000 steps. I was just pottering about in the garden and at home and fiddling with putting the washing out and in again when it rained. I didn't use much energy though. On Sunday I only took 12,000 steps but the hour long dog walk at the beach counted for more energy than I expended all day Saturday ! Clearly I need to forget all the domestic chores and visit the beach more often ! Haha. It's a lovely evening now and I'm going to speed walk around the garden for a bit, and check up on the fox mangled hen, which is amazingly still alive !

@mrstee Its odd, isn't it. I'm amazed my modest walks to/fro station when I commute add up to more than when I go out for a substantial walk. But I'm very impressed by your 18k when pottering about, I never manage more than 5k when I'm doing housework/local errands, even when I try and avoid sitting down all day.

I blame the chicken for the big count on Saturday, as I had to section off part of the chicken house so she can stay with the other hens but so they couldn't peck her scab, so I went backwards and forwards a lot . I also read about NEAT and tried not to sit down too much, which was harder than I expected. My legs were aching when I eventually got to bed. Just done my speed walk which was a bit slow as I was distracted by the neighbours' lambs .... Aah, they are funny. Will try again tomorrow. Have fun all

Sounds like you had a lovely time @sallyo. @mrstee well done on the step count. I imagine you whizzing around your house and garden like on a video on fast forward. haha.
I've just got back from my walk. It was 1.5hr most of it uphill again. I really think this walk helped with my weight loss last week so I'm going to try to do it a few times this week. Happy walking everyone.

Trying to go for an hour long walk every day - depends on how I feel if it is on the flat or up/down a few hills! Just been to the supermarket and I feel so much better, so perhaps will try to go for a walk every morning from now on.

@Sallyo glad to hear your trip to Adelaide is going well! Your relatives plaque is a very nice touch.

It's a lovely sunny day in London and I'm working from home, so the plan is to make time for a walk along the Parkland Walk (disused railway line and now conservation area).

@spanner I hope your 10 mile walk this Friday is not rained off. Walking in the POURING rain when you can't see a thing is certainly not fun.

Just got back from my walk. I did the same uphill walk as yesterday but had to cut it short a bit to be back in time for DDs lunch. It took me an hour today.I pushed myself to get up there faster and can really feel it in my leg.
Happy walking everyone

Well done on all your walks everyone! :like: :victory:

I feel guilty now as I've slacked this week so far as I've been feeling a bit out of sorts  - thought I might be coming down with something but it didn't materialise so not sure what that was all about!

Anyway, like Lizbean said above, it is lovely and sunny here in London  so I've got mt ballet pumps on and will walk the 2 miles home from teh station this evening (instead of DH picking me up from there) - the nice weather is suuposed to stay with us for a while (fingers crossed :clover: !) so intend to do that daily during the summer in addition to my usual 3 x 30 mins brisk walks a week  .

Am really hoping that this is going to start my weight shifting again as I've stayed the same for the last 2 months

Hope you are all having a lovely day / evening :like:

Have you ever done one of those walks, when the sun is shining and life is good. When you take the path straight ahead instead of your usual left turn, just to see where it goes?.......hmmmppphhh 6 miles later!
On the plus side I found some unwalked ( well for me anyways) footpaths and was joined by a red kite who was hovering above the hedgerow looking for a tasty morsel. On the downside dog got hot and found the muddiest, the largest and deepest puddle to lie down in! She is now hosed and sunning herself in the garden.
Good walking today x

I've been for my uphill walk this morning. It took me 65 minutes this time. The first time I did this walk last week it took me 90 minutes. So I shaved 25 off. Does that mean I'm burning less energy? I know I'm walking for less time but surly I still use the same amount of energy to get up there and back. Not that it matters really, it is what it is. Think I will add an extra bit to me walks tho to make them 90minutes when I can.
Happy walking everyone. :)

Doesn't it just mean you're getting fitter @justdee? Walking the same distance but in shorter time? Must be good mustn't it?

Anyway, I really need to get off here and go and walk the girls. This forum is too addictive.
