Just popping in to share my slightly-longer-than-planned walk home from work. I was up early and on the bus there and prepared with water for me and the hound. I have been hoping to have a go at the long walk home for a while and had decided I was fit enough and the weather just right......
Sadly got lost on the 10 mile cross country route and it took 4.5 hours to get home!!!
I have calculated that if I include my walk to and from bus stop I have walked 15 miles today!!! No wonder my poor feet are throbbing and the dog has taken himself to bed!!
This morning I was so pleased with myself and was even thinking I would manage it once a week....think I need to buy a map first...and next time I will wear long trousers as I now have nettle stings and bramble scratches all over my legs from trying to take "shortcuts"!!
Happy walking people xxx

Oooh spanner, that sounds like a detour too far eek! Definitely a map AND a compass needed {{{+}}}
Oooh well done everybody. I didn't fit a walk in today but had a lovely hour last night at sunset. Only cut a little short because we disturbed 3 deer and they ran away but kept watching and we think there was a fawn lying still in the long grass. Young dog was bouncing all over the place so she must have got the scent. We dragged her home. All the farmers are cutting the fields today so I hope it's moved now ! @spanner, you must get a map ! If you have a smart phone you could get the free "mapmywalk" app. I tried it the other day and it tells you speed distance etc. I wasn't expecting voices to give updates as I went along though ! I turned that off. @justdee is your house sparkling now ? Have a good weekend all
It sure is @mrstee , I've not stopped all day. Everywhere (4 floors) swept and mopped, kitchen and bathrooms cleaned from top to bottom, all the bedding washed and put back on and I even started sorting my clothes out. Very productive day. The most I've every done on a fastday. I wish I'd put my pedometer on. I hope I have a loss on the scale tomorrow, I've really earned it this week.
Well done on the walks everyone, keep up the good work.

I've got a little step-dog called Kimi (after the Finnish formula 1 driver) - she belongs to my younger son & my ex. When I was OS I was so looking forward to taking her for walks again. This week since I've been back we've had 3 lovely walks, 2 to the off-leash dog park where she runs like a crazy thing (she's a kelpie cross). Last night she even tried outrunning a greyhound, although that didn't quite work, but it made me laugh! I've been having a lovely time learning about doggie culture, since I've never (nearly) owned a dog before. She pulls on the lead a bit, so I've been really slow jogging with her rather than strictly walking. Perhaps I should put this on the wags string, but the walking bit has been good too.
Happy walking everyone!

@jools7 Hey buddie you make me smile when I read your step dog Kimi hope he's not as fast as his namesake
happy walking everyone mine on hold for a while due to health issues will restart asap Well done @justdee You are putting me to shame
What can we say @spanner That was serious walking poor dog no wonder he's taken to his bed.
I use "map my walk" and "bikehike" free on the net prefer the later but probably because more used to that one as first didn't work correctly for me, gives you distances and gradients etc
I'm living in hope of a Monday restart, don't want to lazy after all the walking on my holiday.

Oh walkers! I am just in from an evening out - dinner with friends following a full days work. I walked up the hill and down the hill to get home, in the lovely warm, relaxing barmy evening.
@spanner - aww how frustrating to get lost and boy does it take it out of you trying to get back on track. Some days are like that! Hum, brings back memories of getting lost in The Lakes because my friend and I were chatting too much! enjoy your wine and foot soak - you deserve it! Do hounds need a foot soak too?
I shall walk this weekend but my first priority is to plant out all the veggies and herbs in the garden.

Hey! I'm back! Just went on a long therapeutic walk to the forest with my sister and niece. It's been quite a few days of not walking. Great to see the big trees. OH is suffering more than any of us and let's just say, it doesn't bring out his better side. He wants to control me in every detail and I won't be controlled. He gets upset and this morning he broke the coffee plunger by slamming it down on the bench. Then he, the perfect driver, drove the ute into the wall and wrecked the bumper bar. I am remaining calm and not letting his behaviour ruffle me: it is just an inappropriate way of expressing his grief. It was great to get away for an hour or so. Lots of great walking happening. I'm ready to fast again on Monday.
Such a tough time for you all @sallyo , grief make us behave oddly sometimes, doesn't it? Glad you had a nice walk in the forest, a little escape. Take care hun. I look forward to hearing about all the things you see on your walks again soon, we've missed you in here.
Welcome back @Sallyo. So glad to hear you have had a therapeutic walk in the forest with your family today. Do you have plans to walk tomorrow? And well done for remaining calm in the face of OH's chaos - let's hope tomorrow is a better day. I'm fasting on Monday too. Today is a gardening day and I plan to go for an early evening walk, yet to decide where, I might invite a friend.
@spanner how are those lovely feet today?

Just found this...my sort of place. Used to run but my knees protested after a few years so now walk. I have a one acre plot I walk around countless times each day gardening and checking on chickens and ducks. We also take the dogs for a 30 min walk every evening. A couple of times a month we do up to 10km with the dogs. That is likely to increase now the weather is better. I love walking.
Hi fellow walkers and buddy @lizbean
Feet have recovered which is good news as I have to work and be on them until 7pm tonight.
The dog is also recovered and was raring to go today but we just did a mile lap of the fields - I am worried his pads are a bit sore after walking in the heat yesterday. Plus it is too hot for our furry friends to do much at 20 degrees.
Tomorrow I am marshalling the local 16 mile charity walk, I have done it myself before and it's a lovely trek but a long day. Unless someone gets lost I shan't be out much, plus after my getting lost episode I am not sure I am the best person to help out with mountain rescue!!
Hope you all enjoy your weekend- sunscreen please for all you Brits out strolling- remember our pasty skin is not used to the rays!!

20 degrees? Hot? Where do you live, Spanner, that 20 degrees would be considered too hot for furry friends?
Haha that's funny @sallyo . I'm in spain and sometimes feel cold when it's in the late 30's at this time of the year but I was on skype to family in UK the other day and my brother said they where having a BBQ because it's a nice hot day, when I asked how hot he said 19 degrees. haha When it's 19degrees here we've got wooly jumpers and the heating on. Us who are in the sunny parts of the world forget what it's like in the colder parts, we're so lucky.
Edit: welcome to the walking tent @bobshouse
