I went walking in the local shopping plaza this morning. Did a couple of circuits. It's undergoing renovations so a recce every so often is needed to check out where shops have moved to. I was there fairly early before most shops were open so had a fairly clear run.

@Sallyo you take care, run down and exhausted is to be expected I guess. That is nice to have letter's written by your great aunt. Do you know the name of the road your aunt lived at? I could take a photo of the house sometime if you wish. Yes, Hampstead is very pretty and the heath is a wonderful place to escape from the city with great views from Parliament Hill. 13th July we are having a BIG picnic on the heath if the weather holds out! Have you visited London? Last year I took a visitor to see the views and met a lovely lady who returned from Canada to see her aunt and trace her mother's past in London.
@Maggiee - sorry to hear you are feeling the cold and have the winter blues. I hope you feel cheerier soon. I read Caroline's article yesterday and I'm thinking of taking VIT D supplement in the winter.

My friend has a nasty migraine, so we have delayed our walk to 1pm in the hope she is feeling up for it.

Thanks @mrstee - you make me SMILE big time when I see your posts "Right - I'm off round and round the garden again" How big is your garden circuit?

Hurrah hurrah 72k steps this week - my best week ever. Lots of lovely walking in Brighton today, shopping and meeting a friend who completed the London to Brighton cycle ride. Then a few errands this evening pushed me over the magic 70k.

Determined to do the same next week.

@Minumonline

Er, you are so on track! Well done. I have yet to buy one of those pesky pedometers. However I walked a circular 4 miles across Hampstead Heath and popped into the Art Fair, more walking - on my feet for 7 hours - how many steps is that?

Back to work tomorrow.

10k steps=4.5 miles according to my Withings. I'd really recommend getting a pedometer - adds a level of fun to the process :)

Hope you're feeling better today @sallyo
Hey @MaggieeSorry you've got the winter blues just ease yourself back in slowly sometimes the winter walks are so beautiful (depending on you winter of course)

We've got another nice day here in the UK and I've put the washing out to dry in the sunshine, getting ready to go fora walk before the sun gets to hot. :clover: :clover:

The key is to remember to put pedometers on, I tend to forget !
My weight is on the rise again. Perhaps perhaps perhaps
I don't know.
I walked yesterday near Peterborough, alongside the river. Saw a pair of great spotted woodpeckers and a hare, forgot my pedometer.
Must sit less. Even just standing burns twice the calories of sitting and shows my body it needs to keep my metabolism up.
Must eat when hungry. No grains nor sugar.
Have I given myself too many rules? Certainly when I eat gluten the pain is evident, I know I've had that problem all my life but didn't know what caused it before.
I really want my weight down below 70kgs, I really do. Body say no.
What now?

Sorry, I don't post on here often, but it seems I take the same walk every day - we have a dog and I love walking her through our subdivision to a walking trail, go once about the loop (about .9 mi) and then back home. I figure it is between 2 and 2.5 miles and a bit hilly as well. I found out soon after starting this circuit that there are a LOT of dogs in our neighborhood. Here's the problem - I love walking early if I can - usually just weekends - but that would wake up the entire neighborhood as I walk by the houses with dogs! So I ended up driving to the park and walking around it twice!

This weekend, our town had a Beer Cheese Festival. They had samples of beer cheese usually on crackers though a few had carrots or celery. There were loads of concession stands, including farmer's market vendors as well as arts and crafts. Put on a several 1000 steps for that. A wonderful day as it was coolish (upper 70s) and low humidity!

Well I hope everyone had a good weekend ! Sallyo, I hope you feel better soon, don't be too hard on yourself you've been through a lot recently. I have failed with the "early walk" plan so far, but it really like the sound of that. Minumonline. Well done on 72k, you should be proud of yourself. Justdee I hope your blister heals fast, bet it's sore though. Don't we see a lot of nature on our walks ? I just cut short my frogmarch round the garden as the farmer over the road is cutting hay and there's a lot flying around in the wind; I don't want to look like more of a scarecrow than usual ! I was distracted by a kestrel hovering absolutely still waiting for the small lunch on legs to run away from the tractor ... Fascinating. Chook, I like the sound of going round the shops when they're closed, an excellent money saving idea ! SueQ. What on earth is beer cheese ? Sounds wonderful ! Yesterday we planned to go to our local nature reserve so the boys could go off down the disused cycle track on their bikes ( and yes, they came back covered in mud). My daughter being a teenager said she wouldn't come and then at the last minute changed her mind. So we squeezed the 4 of us, 2 bikes and 2 dogs into the car and off we went. My daughter and I walked the dogs . There were loads of wild orchids and quite a few different butterflies. Me and the dogs enjoyed it, but being a teenager my daughter put her earphones on and didn't say a word ! I suppose at least she came along willingly. When we got home we demolished the fruit cake I made in the morning, so I've got to make another one now. I have worked out that a lap round the garden is about 0.3 km if I make sure I add in detours round the shed, chicken run and flower meadow area etc. it's on a hill too so it's not too easy. Now off to get the washing in ... How exciting !

Beer cheese is made of beer, cheese and spices. The recipes I've seen use extra sharp cheddar, but I swear one tasted like velveeta! Spices are used to give it a kick - garlic, cayenne, worcestershire sauce, S & P. It was developed as a quick appetizer dip here in Winchester KY! Winchester is a smallish town (about 18,000 people) and there were probably around 12,000 downtown for the event. Lots of fun.

Sounds fab, I might try and make some. Is it a dark beer (what we'd in the UK call a bitter) or a yellow beer ( lager, like miller lite !). Doesn't sound like its part if of a calorie controlled diet though !

all of us are going really well. Well done! Maggie, darling, get out and walk! It will certainly help the blues. Take yourself to that coffee shop! Walk there and walk home. Notice the sun. Mid afternoon is a good time. I let my walking go because of my cough. Then yesterday, all of a sudden, I developed a dreadful pain in the lower back! Too much sitting at the computer! Also, grief. Definitely. I had it once before when I experienced the first significant death in my life, of my children's father. Exactly this pain. So I have got back out walking. Yesterday I did along the river and today, after a massage, up to the top of the northern hill. I didn't make 10,000 steps either day and I have to walk slowly and carefully and think about bending down to pick up my socks. But there you are. Progress. i understand grief takes its own time, many forms, I am finding the OH insufferably annoying! I wish he would just shut up and leave me alone. I just want to stop the world and get off. But I know I can't. I have responsibilities and people are relying on me. I cannot just hide under the blankets. It's ok. Thank you for all your loving comments and care. I do appreciate it. It's wonderful to have a safe place to let it all out, the whole story and the true story, ever changing and newly developing. Let's walk on!

Also not posting very often but looking over the past few weeks I seem to go for a really long 'power walk' about 3 times a week at the end of which I feel ''alive and alert', one day I don't go out the house at all and the others I use the car and just meander round at a slow speed. I think my 'power walks' are taking most of my energy and I spend the other days recovering.
