We'll done Sallyo, it's much harder to make the effort when the weather is rubbish. You did see a lot of things didn't you though ! Shame about forgetting the pedometer, but you still did the walk and it still counts. I'm impressed with your learning Japanese. I have a confession to make.... Yesterday evening I checked on the fitbit site and saw that I had been overtaken on the leaderboard by someone I try to keep ahead of if possible, so I left the boys watching the football and marched round and round the garden for 45 minutes like a nutter. Anyway, I managed to gain my place back on the leaderboard and felt all smug ! However, this morning they have already overtaken me again so I think they must live somewhere down under ! I didn't think I was very competitive !
We haven't had rain for a fortnight and it's like a proper summer (due to end on Thursday according to the forecast). I have been out in the garden early this morning and the butterflies are flying and it's insect heaven. Good butterfly hunting Azureblue, our buddleia is about to burst into flower so that will be lovely for the butterflies. Since I began trying to speed walk fast every day about a month ago I have watched our Christmas tree which we planted sprout tiny new buds which grew to new bright green branches now about 10" long, amazing. The lovely bright green is now beginning to fade. There are baby rabbits everywhere which are driving the dog nuts. We have cows in the field over the road and can hear them munching the hedge... This also annoys the dog ! I have now left the dog in the garden, she can obviously hear a mole digging and is poised ready to pounce - I hope she doesn't get it !
Welcome philxjr, yes the South Downs are a bit hilly ! Good luck in this heat, you'll be favourite with the dog if you manage a walk every day !

My Omron was around £18 on Amazon. I don't post on here as I walk the dogs every day- the only exercise machine that has ever worked for me, as they nag very efficiently- and it feels like cheating to claim it as an achievement.

I'm beginning to get really excited! 9 days and I'l be home and able to get out and play and walk and do all the outside stuff that I love! Really looking forward to being able to contribute to this tent.
I am insanely jealous of you all! Just back in from getting some messages (shopping) which I have to do in the car- it's 46C out there!
Dreaming of fresh air, cool breezes, trees and green stuff...
and maybe some *whispers* rain- sorry

janeg, I can't imagine that. It gets hot like that in Adelaide, for example, in summer but it's cooler at night. Can you walk at night? Where are you exactly in the Middle East. It's a big place. I love knowing where people are.

My Omron is more expensive than a lot of other pedometers but it's really good and I trust it, which is more than I can say for many pedometers I have had. And I really like it that it's so flexible about how you carry it: clipped to your belt, in a pocket, in your bra, or in a bag. You just have to remember to take it out of your dressing gown pocket and put it into your walking pants pocket when you go out!

Welcome Phil to the tent. I hope to read your descriptions of walking in the Downs. Sounds romantic. Where are the Downs, exactly?

@Sallyo I'm in Dubai - it is a bit cooler at night but with high humidity which makes it not nice. And the mosquitos love me! Add to that the sheer lack of places to walk- many places have no pavements and mental drivers, and it's dark, makes it not really an option.
Interested in this Omron thingy. Beloved is a gadget freak and is begining to take an interest in getting fit. The idea of of a pedometer plus is cool except he hates watches/necklaces/anything ON him. The Omron could be the thing!

Just a short one hour fastday walk for me today, we've got rain coming in later + tomorrow apparently so I'm off out into the garden to finish a few chores. :clover: :clover:

I squeezed a nice walk in this morning before the rain came in. I don't think I've ever seen so many butterflies ! Both dogs are now sleeping, and it's raining hard.

Might they have attached their fitbit to their dog? (Just to see you sweat?)

@mrstee I spy you shooting up the fitbit leaderboard. Thanks to your four legged friends dare I say. It's such a good excuse for a walk, :dog:

Yes Carieoats, they give me their big sad eyes until I give in ! I am usually ok on the steps quantity, but not so good at the active minutes. So I need to work on that. This morning 's dog walk was lots of steps but not particularly active, too many stops for butterfly watching and scooping unmentionables. There was 1 meadow left uncut, all the others have been cut for hay. No frog marching tonight, got a meeting to go to instead.

@Sallyo my Omron has just arrived! I just now need to set it and off I go!

Yesterday after work was another walk in Regent's Park with friends - smelled the roses. We ate at the café - beautiful summers evening - a good wind down from a ridiculously busy week.

@Janeg - I chose Omron Walking Style III, from Amazon £13. Just wanted something simple to match me  Seemed to have good reviews. I'm only interested in the number of steps (not the calorie bit). Have you planned any walks for when you are back in the UK?

Today - is my weekly walk over the hill to the shops, gardening. Yesterday I picked my FIRST ever grown from seed mini cucumber - delicious. Later I'll be digging up the potatoes and giving them to the neighbours as I low carb.

Off to plan tomorrows walk - 10k steps

Who is walking today?

The weather here is absolutely bitter. Freezing cold wind and driving rain. I know you Brits are tough and it rains so much you walk in it anyway and the Americans don't think this is cold, but we Aussies are wooses and I can't go out in it.
