Thanks for the nudge, Sallyo, I seem to have been chained to the desk this week, and no "proper" walks, just the usual pottering. However, I have started using the treadmill for c25k so hope that counts (dogs not impressed !) But the weekend is nearly here, so I'll make an effort. Also been rummaging on the veg patch and have lots of nettle stings to prove it... I need to have a hoe session ! Last night we had a home grown dinner : carrots, spuds, broad beans, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers, along with pork chops. Yum. I think only the olives came from a shop. More of the same today, but we'll make pizzas too. I threw any manky broad beans into the chickens as I shelled them, and the odd ones at the dogs but I won't do that again.... They spent the evening letting out terrible stink bombs !

Finished half the dreaded paperwork then we went for a walk at some local lakes. Saw a little egret, three baby grebe with parents, terns diving and wheeling round us, six cygnets with proud parents, heard many unusual songs in the hedgerows too.
Tired now but better for being out :0)

I've been walking early before I start work, then a bit at lunchtime. In the evening, I take Marley out for a walk to the walking trail, once around , then home (about 2.25 miles total). It's a great trail, sorta teaching Marley not to jump on people (well-learned), and after dogs (sorta learned, depends on the dog) and rabbits and birds (not learned AT ALL!). SO I get my best workout then! Weather here today and the next couple is hot, so may be hard to do the longer walk. Since it is the weekend, will likely do that early in the morning. Supposed to have a cold front come in next week with highs in the 70s F (20s C). Looking forward to it (it is 86 now, 30 C). Happy walking!

Hello everyone and it give me so much pleasure to be able to say 'I have been walking ! ' :) :) :)
I had the pleasure of the walk from the train station to my mother's the day after we landed.
It's a year since I've been and interesting to see the changes. The petrol station that lay defunct for a few years is now a supermarket! This is a posh residential area , so that was quite a change! Still loads of old mature trees, lots of gardens and very verdant. It even smells 'green'. Not a long walk, but very enjoyable.
Then a trail about Glasgow city centre. It is so green and interesting architecturally. A joy to behold. And that, couples with people watching and evesdropping sound bites, make for a lovely experience.
Then onto Yorkshire. Great vistas, with soft hills and moors. The walk through the town to the allotment and church is lovely, then a big walk down to the victorian park. A sunny day, with lots of people about and , oh joy, the park has a paddling pool! Well, that HAD to be used. Then lying under a spreading chestnut tree with Beloved watching the clouds and sky. And, yes, I did sing and do the actions.
Can you tell I'm loving it?

More to follow...

Well done @janeg That sounds wonderful to me,
ans so different to your usual vistas, hope you're getting a little sunshine thrown in for good measure,
so glad you're havinga good time catching up with family and going down memory lane, happy walking. :like: :clover:

@janeg - thanks, that sounds idyllic and great fun - makes one realise how lucky we are.
@Sue.Q - te, he, tis good to treat oneself  My daughter is wearing the most fabulous flared black leggings which would look great with my range of long tops/short dresses. So they are my next purchase.

I seem to have forgotten how beneficial it is to walk on fast days (Mon/Thurs) . Another for my 'mindful' to do list. It's Saturday, so by know you will realise my walk is over the hill to buy fresh produce for the week.

We've been walking round a Medieval Day at Higham Ferrers, celebrating Henry Chichele who was Chancellor to Henry V and Archbishop of Canterbury too, 600 years ago.
There were knights in armour on horses, all sorts of stalls of ancient artisans making things like nails, wood turning, coin stamping, wool dying and so on. Musicians, and fighting with sword and shield and a lot of townspeople in costume. All very enjoyable. Strawberries and cream was on sale and delicious!
I have been naughty and bought a fish curry for dinner (Oooh super yum) and aim to fast from 7pm tonight until at least noon tomorrow, my first in nearly a month.
And relax :0)

So we are off to the picnic. The plan is to walk back the 4 miles having eaten all the food as we will only have blankets to carry

Happy walking everyone. :like:

Walked round Market Harborough and then along the canal from their Basin. Lots of narrow boats coming and going and people out and about, all very jolly!

Back from the picnic. It was fabulous weather and great company - 25 of us made it. Live music wafting over the heath from the band stand all afternoon, amazing steel band that has been going 27 years, jazz, a bit of country - activities for the kids and wellington boot throwing and tug of war with rope etc.

Afraid I did not walk home - only 6k steps today, but I had a jolly good 'down time' - lots of laughter so I am relaxed for a challenging week ahead.

Hi @Sue.Q I'll be honest :( I've not been yet as we didn't get up until late, 11ish. I'm going for a swim with DD in an hour for an hour and I'll go for a walk right from the pool as DD will be with her friends, then maybe another swim to cool down after. All that walking you've done today will get you started on the right track for the week, well done hun :) .
I'll let you know later how long I walk for :)

@justdee, I intended going for a swim today but couldn't work out what the name of the local pool here is and some of the pools were beingj used for schools. And it's glorious. So I walkwd from the house into the town to pick up rail tickets for our journey tomorrow. It took me nearly an hour each way and it was gorgeous. Trees, lots of gardens to peek into, all sorts of different types of houses, a bit beside the river with marsh marigols and ducks, lots of lilac in bloom, roses, hawthorn (hips and haws) elderberries, brambles...it's amazing how much further on atuff is here even from Yorkshire never mind Central Scotland.
Feel well exercised and virtuous.
Hitting Glasgow tomorrow and so much to explore. Very excited.
And I still haven't told you about our Bronte walk yet !

I've been for a swim and a half an hour walk @Sue,Q, not the best efforts put in today but will try harder. At least my fast is going well, chicken and ratatouille for dinner, not had this before on a fastday and don't know the cals yet but sure it will be fine. We're off to the beach tomorrow so lots of playing in the sea and a nice healthy picnic :)
@jeneg the pool here is used for the summer school kids but is also open to the pubic, maybe it's the same there.

edit: oh don't know if that has tagged as didn't go blue
