Yes, Minsmum, WOW! I had a small walk today. I walked from my work to the shops, taking the shopping trolly so that I could carry the bag of oranges. Then to the print shop to buy ink and then back down Oldaker Street to the library to look up recipes of lime marmalade as I was given a bag of limes the other night. Not a big walk and not quite London, but better than no walk at all.

Hello, I would like to join your walking tent please.
I have been through various phases in my walking "career", this being probably my slowest, but I am still doing it!
For years, I loved visiting the Lake District and snowdonia to climb those beautiful mountains as well as super fast speed walking (always aiming for 5mph) but that was curbed with a knee injury. I had an op back in January so now I am back at walking about 3.5mph with my lovely lab Doogey. I have a 2 and 3 miles circular route that we do daily, or twice daily time permitting.
As a family we are trying to get back into walking / hiking which is a fabulous free activity. We managed the Malvern hills end to end a few weeks ago which was exhausting, but wonderful.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Love
Lou xx

Went out with good intentions. Two thunderstorms chased us home to do the ironing and eat strawberries and cream. Oh well. I've booked tomorrow morning for next walk attempt.
Hi @Loubyloulou a warm welcome to you, good to keep walking whenever, forever. Looking forward to hearing more. Hum, The Lakes - such great memories over the many years. I was born in Lancaster, though whizzed to Kent at a wee 6 months and then back to Lancs at 10 yrs. London is home for the last 30 years. Love it.
@Sallyo - I love how you name your streets, I'm going to google earth the streets, so I can follow you! Is anyone else doing that?
@Janeg are you ready and packed - I am! - I'm taking two weeks off from work from 15th - caring for parents in Lancs. I'll be walking for restbite Skyping my friend in the sandpit in an hour, first conversation since she returned a month ago.
Love everyone's posts, really keeps me mindful during my silly busy life. Thanks to all.

3 days 19 hours and 39 minute until we go @Lizbean
nowhere near packed. I do it last minute and fortunately usually have everything. What I don't have is a decent pair of walking sandals. My flipflop/mule things are rubbing at the toes and I would rather not trail in humid Singapore in trainers.
Don 't think I have time break in a pair never mind find something to suit my hobbit feet.
Off out to find a guide book on Indonesia so I might have a quick look.

@janeg yeh, 3 days ................. good luck with the shoes
I'm having a lazy Saturday morning ......... bath and then off to buy daughters birthday present (acoustic guitar) and hopefully come across a dress for nephews wedding 21 August. I did buy one but it's been relegated for other occasions - not quite right. So there will be lots of walking the streets today.............

Finally got a walk into and around town, came home to eat breakfast. My weight creeping up this week after a good drop. Ah the vagaries of the vary fairy :0.
Raining here today so it was a couple of circuits around the Plaza again. I did stop in at The Athletes Foot and bought these:

I needed them, I really did! I would have preferred something prettier but I tried on heaps and these felt best. Going to China next month so I think these will do well on The Great Wall.

Oh no, have we missed your take off @Janeg have you departed? Have a lovely holiday!
Oh, @chookthe great wall! I went there and my feel swelled up in the heat and I had the most awful trouble. I wore walking sandals, but had no end of trouble with feet in China. It was September. Lots of walking.
And @janeg Have a wonderful time. I wonder where you are going, other than Singapore. You mention Indonesia?
No walking today. Tomorrow it's the Wednesday walk to work gig. Must leave early enough.

Still in the sandpit here for another 19 hours. At work doing the first aid course from hell. Hopefully it will finish soon and I can get away to pack.
@Sallyp Singapore then sulawesi/lembeh/banca are to dive.
Getting very excited.
@chook Was very fortunate to get to the Great Wall. Winter- so so cold and I had a gammy foot so was walking with a crutch (the noonoo!). It is amazing. Words failed me and I had to be physically restrained from overdoing the walking. A truly amazing experience. If your experience is even half as good as mine it will blow you away, I'm sure.

@Sallyo I had planned to wear walking sandals and not take "proper" shoes but last Sunday our tour guide was talking about the unevenness of the surface and suggested, if we had them, to take hiking poles. As my knees are a bit dodgy I decided to take proper walking shoes. I really did need new ones though. The tread was wearing off my old ones. I'll be taking my performance shoes as well which are reasonably proper shoes (http://www.theathletesfoot.com.au/merrell-brio-black) but I don't want to get them scuffed. Can't wear scruffy shoes on stage even if no one will really be looking at my feet. Wouldn't feel right. The Merrells are really good for standing in for a long time if anyone else is looking for such a thing. I can still feel my feet at the end of a performance. Always a good thing not to have numb feet when you have to walk offstage.
Well, I hope it all goes well. The Great Wall is quite a walk! So many steps!
