Re: Excess skin......

Not really, LOL!

Seriously though, I'm just trying to find a way to make excess skin sound better than it is! At least we can show it. Think of all the women who canny show it for various reasons. Not just religion but poverty (no beach holiday) or an illness. At least we are able to enjoy ourselves while dreaming of plastic surgery or a miracle treatment!!! :-)

And there are always those swimsuits with the tummy holding elastic thingy (can you tell that I don't know how they are called?)...

I understand where you are coming from TML with your post, I know there are women out there less fortunate, in my case I have spent many years covering up a fat body, I am now at a stage where I can wear nice clothes from any shop, size 14 top / 16 bottom and at 5'6" tall I don't look bad. I refuse to cover up any more, life is too short and I now want to make up for lost time before I am too old to enjoy it. I still have a fragile confidence and rely on my husband and family to tell me if something is not looking ok. My cousin died last year at 62 yrs old in a Gym, He was fit all his life, an ex sportsman. When that happened it changed my outlook. Life is for living now, and you older ladies who have bat wings or any other loose bits, I think people have better things to do than spend time looking at your arms, try and be comfortable with yourself.
For the younger ladies (and men) as you lose the weight tone up as you go along any way you can. Enough said.

de Muralist many thanks for the info on your mother. It gives me heart that, even if my skin does start to drape itself around me, in time it might just
slowly disappear. I was once told that if you were not at your ideal(preferred) weight at forty your skin would never shrink back.

Hi Chris,

you are quite right, life is too short, my sister died at 62 from breast cancer and when she was first diagnosed she told me that she put it down to a life time of bad diet and being overweight. Her death changed my outlook, it didn't change my diet much, as I had always been a much healthier eater than her, but I did start to reduce the amount I ate plus I started to reduce my sugar intake.

I would happily have 10 times as many wrinkles as I do (even if that is not physically possible)if I could have my sister back but hey.....we just have to get on with it.

I'm still looking forward to my Actiderm action pack though, wish it would arrive soon, the poor postman thinks I've developed a crush on him and is trying to avoid my stalking tactics.

Hugs to all on here whatever life has thrown at you,

Just a quick update on loose skin, batwings, bingowings etc. I know my upper arms are shrinking because although I never measured, my blood pressure monitor cuff is fastening at a shorter length - shadenfreude or what! I have been reviving the old callanetics exercise for the arms, it takes about two minutes and it is helping , I am convinced of it! By the way, the last time I was on a beach holiday in Sardinia,I was impressed by how lots of the older women were out and proud on the beach, no attempt made to cover up lumps and bumps at all. This acceptance of the body is really attractive and it's what I'm aiming for - surgery? never!!

I'm interested to know more about cold water-should I be having cold showers or baths? Brrr. Still if it works I'm prepared to try it.

I don't usually believe in creams and potions....
However, NIP & FAB from boots is amazing!!! Not expensive and it really works, if you use it as directed!! They do one for 'bingo wings' but a tip for saving money- just use the abdo one on your arms ie the spare stuff on your hands! If I could afford it I'd buy a tube for everyone.
Life changing....x

Speaking as someone who carried twins and suffered from the resulting 'twin mum apron' I have to agree with Demuralist's mother about time being a great healer. I took two years to lose just over three stone and got to target last January. Regaining over a stone of that brought me here, but over the whole period to date since having the twins eight years so, I have to say that the apron has slowly but surely improved. It's not perfect and never will be, but you can certainly expect an improvement over time folks. I do moisturise almost every day, but I use anything and everything and nothing special in the way of creams and oils. I do like Argan oil (from amazon) for very dry bits.

In the meantime, I really recommend a Florence and Fred (tesco) control slip dress thing where you wear your own bra. Lots of people do similar, but at three times the price. The tesco one is £10 ish and really comfortable and smoothing.

Caroline, I saw that article. Poor man. There should be exceptions where quality of life is so badly compromised and where the amount involved is so huge. I'm personally quite opposed to gastric bands, but even I would sign a petition on this guys behalf.
